Kenny downbeat after defeat

After watching his side fall to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Sligo Rovers on Saturday, a downbeat Stephen Kenny said he was disappointed with the result. First half goals from Danny North and David Cawley topped off by a second half strike from North, along with two red cards, sent the Hoops home with nothing but frustration.
“Course I’m disappointed with that, it’s a bad result for us, there’s no going away from that”, he told ExtraTime.ie. The former Derry City manager continued, “The first two goals were good strikes, but obviously the third one was a soft goal. But, the first two goals were good strikes.”
“There wasn’t much in the first-half over all, it was a tight game, we conceded two and obviously going down to ten men in the second half ended us, made it difficult for us.”
By the time the final whistle had been blown, the Tallaght side had nine players on the pitch. Former Sligo Rovers midfielder Chris Turner was shown a red card by Tom Connolly in the 50th minute following a push on Alan Keane. Graham Gartland received two yellows and was sent for an early shower on 85 minutes.
Kenny felt that both sending offs were harsh. “You can’t raise your hands, there’s always a danger. Obviously Alan Keane made a lot more of it than he needed to but I’ve just seen it on television, very harsh. But Graham Gartland, that seemed a harsh sending off.”
Last year’s champions were without several important players for the game, namely Ciaran Kilduff, Ronan Finn and Ken Oman. Kenny was adamant that his squad can do better even if they are missing players.
“We were missing a few players tonight but that’s all. We have a good enough squad to put in better performances but that’s all.”
The Tallaght faithful always travel in great numbers and Saturday was no different. Kenny was full of praise for the fans that made the trip to the North-West. “It’s a long distance, we had great support. We have to pick it up and go again.”
