Callaghan happy with manner of Bohs win
Bohemians strolled to victory against Dundalk on Friday night and speaking to ExtraTime.ie, manager Alan Callaghan was delighted with victory and also pleased about the manner of the win.
"Great win, we're delighted with it. Fantastic performance. I felt we dominated the game from start to finish. I didn't think Dundalk put in a good performance. They had a great result last week and they have held some teams here so we were expecting a tough game. I think our performance merited the win."
The Gypsies looked like the home side at times and Callaghan was happy with the way his side were able to dictate the play.
"We kept the ball for long periods, we made it difficult for Dundalk to get the ball of us which frustrated them at times. The three lads in the middle of the park kept possession for us. We pinned them back at times through some really good combination play in the last third and I thought we fully deserved our half-time lead.
"The second half we needed to keep at it and keep going for the jugular as they say. The second goal was world class and we comfortably closed it out.
Despite the facile nature of the victory, the Bohemians boss wasn't counting his chickens until the final whistle was blown.
"The result is always in doubt until you get over the line because it just takes one momentary lapse in concentration, like we did last week against Monaghan so you are always on tenterhooks until the final whistle goes but I was confident that wouldn't happen tonight."
Callaghan also heaped praise on his players after their performance and in particular the good passing football they are playing.
"We've been working on short, little interchanging passing in training the past few weeks and you can see the players getting used to the shape and the positioning. One thing about this group is that we have some fantastic young players. They just need that little bit of confidence which they are getting now.
They showed that little bit of courage in relation to getting on the ball at times, getting it off the 'keeper at times and playing it through midfield. They were fantastic tonight and played some excellent football."
