Hutton delighted with Harps resolve

Finn Harps manager Peter Hutton was delighted with the resolve his side showed to come from a goal down to win a league game; the first time they have done so in 49 outings.
The last time the Ballybofey side came from a goal down to post three points was in August 2010 when they defeated Salthill Devon by three goals to two when James Gallagher was in charge. And at Flancare Park on Saturday evening, trailing to Alan Kirby’s goal for the Airtricity League First Division leaders Longford Town, Hutton’s team knew that record needed to be broken to have any chance of leaving the midlands with the points.
“It was a fantastic win,” Hutton said of the 3-1 success. “It was great to get the three points. We knew it was going to be a tough battle down in Longford like it always is but we’re delighted. We challenged the boys in pre-season to do things like that. It’s two years since we won coming from behind and that was a big statistic. It was something we wanted to turn around.”
Harps trailed at the interval to a Kirby goal but broke their trend when they completed a fine turnaround to win, thus inflicting the first loss of the season on the Flancare Park outfit, who remain top of the table after seven games. Paul Simon Treacy scored a free-kick before Thomas McBride put Harps ahead in the 78th minute and one minute into additional time substitute Blain Curtis sealed the win.
“It was great to do so against the league leaders,” Hutton added. “And the fact they had got a good win away to Limerick the week beforehand speaks volumes. They are going to be a formidable side this season. We said to the boys we were in good form. The lads were a little deflated after the EA Sports League Cup game, losing 4-0 in Derry, but we kept preaching to them there’s nothing to fear.”
