Kenna happy with start under Buckley

St. Patrick's Athletic were grabbing all the headlines at the weekend when they secured three points in a shock 5-1 victory over current Champions Shamrock Rovers and captain Conor Kenna feels their thumping victory shows just how unpredictable the League of Ireland can be.

"It was a great result, everything went well for us on the night and I think Shamrock Rovers had an off night. Going into that game they were obviously favourites because they were Champions but the mood around the camp here is always confident and a lot of teams have been unlucky against them this year, I think two teams took the lead against them earlier this season. If you are not on your game it shows what can happen."

There may have been some worries that the squad would take time to settle due to the size of it and how many new names are there, but Conor feels their form would suggest otherwise. "I think we've had a good start to the season, I know we've drawn three games but we were unlucky not to win those games. So yeah I think the squad is settling in very well."

Following their 2-1 victory over UCD in the EA Sports Cup, Kenna is aiming to win the competition. "In any Cup and any game we're looking to win, that's the mentality of the squad that's put across and with the League Cup you only need to win three games and you're in the Final. We had a strong team out on Monday and it [the competition] has also given Liam [Buckley] the chance  to play some lads who haven't really played much so far."

As is the case with any team, it is encouraging to know if the players have taken a shining to a new manager, and Kenna feels that is certainly the case at Inchicore under Liam Buckley and assistant manager Trevor Croly.

"Funny enough, there aren't many players left from last year so it's a whole new squad that Liam has brought in himself. Everyone's enjoying their time here, the mood around the camp is very good. Trevor has been great in training, he's very professional and I'm enjoying it myself."

Next up for The Saints is a trip to United Park to take on Drogheda United who have had an impressive start to the season and the centre-back knows they face a tough task on Friday evening.

"They've had a very good start to the season, I think they finished well last season too. They are a strong team and a point ahead of us so we're going there looking to beat them, it's going to be a tough place to go and they've gotten some very good results so far."
