Khassell wins WNL Player of the Month
Wexford Youths’ striker, Cherelle Khassell has been named Bus Éireann Women’s National League Player of the Month Award for February/March.
The 21 year old made an immediate impact when signing for Wexford Youths Women from LA Strikers during the December transfer window. The diminutive striker made her debut for the club when coming off the bench at home against Cork Women’s FC and it quickly became very obvious that her speed and agility would be a threat to any defence.
A week later in Castlebar Celtic she scored two early goals in a 4-3 win and has continued to find the net on a regular basis including scoring a vital goal to set Wexford on their way to a stunning victory over league leaders, Peamount.
Cherelle has been capped for the Republic of Ireland at Under 19 level and was nominated for the Under 19 International player of the year in 2010. She has previously played in the Wexford Women's League with Benfica FC and was part of their double winning squad in 2010 before leaving to play in the USA.
Speaking at the presentation Cherelle said "I am delighted to win the award, it has been great coming back to play for Wexford. The club, the management and of course the team have been great to me, it has been a pleasure being part of the set up. The main thing for us now is to concentrate on our final two games against Raheny and Cork, we want to finish third and will need to do well in those matches."
Extratime.ie will have an extended interview with Cherelle on Thursday, be sure and tune in!
