Gallagher injury worse than thought

Ciaran Gallagher will be out of action for at least a month after it was learned the Finn Harps goalkeeper fractured his skull against Waterford United last weekend.
The 20-year-old netminder fell heavily at the RSC, although got a scan in Waterford Regional Hospital which showed no damage. Gallagher was though advised not to partake in any physical activity for at least a fortnight having suffered concussion. However, further tests revealed the injury was more serious than first thought.
“We had a bit of disappointing news today,” director of football Felix Healy said after the 3-0 home win over SD Galway on Friday. “Ciaran had a scan last week down there and they said it was all clear but he hasn’t been right all week and went to doctor, who saw a hairline fracture just above his eye. It’s a blow and he’ll be out for at least a month.”
Letterkenny teen Shaun Patton kept goal in Gallagher’s absence on Friday and will also be between the sticks against Derry City in the EA Sport League Cup clash on Bank Holiday Monday.
“Shaun is only 16 and only a boy but he is a very capable young man,” Healy said. “We’ve lined up a new goalkeeper and there will be news on that this week.”
