Following Sligo Rovers 3-0 victory over Dundalk on Saturday evening, Danny North took to speak to extratime.ie after scoring two of the home sides goal as he increased his tally in the League to five for the season.

“I’m happy to have gotten off the mark and to carry on my run. The team’s winning now, we are off to a great start and we just need to carry on.”

After a cagey opening half, Rovers settled into the game after the restart when North broke the deadlock. He is delighted to be playing up front alongside Rafael Cretaro who has been supplying North with plenty of chances so far this season.

“The first half we were shocking, we deserved to go in 1-0 down. The second half we came out all guns blazing and we knew how we can play. Raf’s a good player to play with, he’s a clever player and he always helps, he gets me chances and I put them away.”

Despite the late injury to centre-back Jason McGuinness which resulted in Ian Baraclough having to reshuffle his starting line-up, Danny feels there are excuses for his sides shaky start to the game.

“You have to make do without him unfortunately, you can’t do anything about it, it might have upset the rhythm a little but there’s no excuse for us not starting well.”

With confidence in the Rovers camp very high and still joint leaders in the Airtricity League, the striker is keeping his feet on the ground and taking things one game at a time.

“We just got to take every game as they come, we feel we’ve got the players to win every game. We just have to start games well like we did in the second half and we know we can turn teams over. We just have to take it one game at a time and not get carried away because we’ve got a small squad and all it takes is a few injuries and suspensions but we’re confident.”
