Shelbourne -v- Sligo Rovers

SHELBOURNE

Shelbourne’s first game back in the Airtricity League Premier Division since 2006 sees a repeat of last year’s memorable FAI Cup Final. Shels have done good business over the close season with manager Alan Mathews managing to keep 16 of last year’s squad including the entire starting eleven from the Cup Final.

The Dubliners have also made six new signings including Paddy Kavanagh, formerly of Shamrock Rovers and Glen Cronin, formerly of Bohemians. Mathews is in a particularly good mood about tomorrow night.

“Personally, I’m looking forward to the new season – back in the Premier Division. Pre-season has gone well [four wins from four] and what better way to start back in the Premier than a game with Sligo. It’s a return to the Cup Final, it’s in Tolka Park – bring it on!”

As for tomorrow night Shels are currently only without midfielder Barry Clancy following his red-card in November’s match at the Aviva Stadium. However, Mathews will have a better picture of who is available tomorrow morning after a run-out tonight to assess some knocks picked up during the week.

SLIGO ROVERS

Sligo have had a very busy close season with comings and goings on and off the pitch. Ian Baraclough will take charge of his first game tomorrow after only being appointed earlier this week. However, he does not seem to be worried about this.

“It is not ideal that I have had just two days to get to know the players ahead of the new season but I will take a lot from the coaching staff for Friday’s night game. The preparation that has been done should stay in place”.

Although The Bit o’ Red have made some high profile signings such as Danny North from St. Pats they have also lost some key players including Eoin Doyle and Richie Ryan to Hibernian and Dundee United respectively.

As for Friday night, both Iarfhlaith Davoren (hamstring problem) and Raffaele Creataro (hand injury) are both doubtful. Joseph Ndo should be fit after coming through last week's friendly unscathed following a back problem. Also, new signing Pascal Millien will not feature as the club are still waiting on the completion of his work permit.

Referee: Derek Tomney.

MATCH STATS

As for the last five games between the two, the honours are split with both teams emerging victorious twice and one draw. Shels will be feeling confident following their display in the Cup Final, but Sligo have to be seen as favourites after their second place finish in the league last year. Indeed even though they lost their top scorer from last year- Eoin Doyle- to Hibernian, they have managed to bring in a worthy replacement in Danny North who found the net 15 times last year.

BETTING

Shelbourne 15/8, Draw 11/5, Sligo 11/8.
