London based Irish band The Proud have announced that they will release an anthem for the 2012 European Championships. The beat of the song, Emerald Army, has caught on with You Boys In Green (YBIG), the fans who sing at the home games and will be singing the chorus in Poland and Ukraine.

The idea for the song was originally conceived by former Aslan member Eamon Doyle for the 2010 World Cup and the band recorded the song for that competition. Unfortunately Ireland failed to make the 2010 World Cup and the dream for the release of the anthem was put on hold.

The Proud's Mick Duffy explained: “Eamon had a dream of all the Irish fans singing the chorus: 'we are the boys of the emerald army, up for the craic and were here to PARTY, come on you boys in Green'.

"The band recorded the song with a big deal ready for World Cup 2010 until a certain Mr Thierry Henry's handball put the dream on hold, but now with Euro 2012 the recurring dream is always there every night!!”

Proceeds from Emerald Army will be donated to St Vincent de Paul, and it will be on general relase in April.  The band is made up of Eamon Doyle, brothers Michael and Niall Duffy and drummers Paul Elliot and Les Binks, and are on tour in Europe at the minute.
