Henderson replaces Westwood in Ireland squad
It has been confirmed that goalkeeper Stephen Henderson has been called up to Giovanni Trapattoni's squad for the friendly game against the Czech Republic this Wednesday (February 29) at the Aviva Stadium.
The Portsmouth stopper replaces the injured Kieran Westwood, who has been ruled out of the tie with a wrist injury suffered in training. It is expected that Henderson will join up with the rest of the squad in time for training tomorrow morning.
Prior to settling at Portsmouth, Henderson had been a trainee at Aston Villa before spending time with Bristol City, York City, Weymouth, Aldershot Town and Yeovil Town. The 23-year-old has also been capped numerous times at U21 level for Ireland, but is yet to make his debut at senior level.
Fulham defender Stephen Kelly, who has been an ever-present in the Irish squad since his first appearance under Steve Staunton in 2006, has also withdrawn from the squad. Kelly suffered a thigh injury during Fulham’s clash against QPR on Saturday.
