Derry City 3 - 0 Lisburn Distillery

Derry City progressed comfortably through to the next round of the Setanta cup with a one sided victory over Lisburn Distillery at The Brandywell this evening. The win saw Derry go through with a 7-0 aggregate victory and they will now face a glamour tie against Irish League champions Linfield in the last eight.

Right from the first whistle it seemed as if it was going to be a long evening for the Irish League outfit as Patrick McEleney took control of the midfield, creating chances for himself, Rory Patterson and Stephen McLaughlin. After dominating the first 20 minutes the deadlock was finally broken when Patrick McEleney collected the ball just over the half way line and drove goalwards before hitting a shot from all of 30 yards which nestled in the bottom corner of Billy Brennan's net. The rest of the half saw Derry create chance after chance but they just couldn't add to McEleneys' solitary strike.

The second half picked up where the first finished with waves of Derry attacking with only a couple of breaks from Distillery. In the 62nd minute, the lively Stephen McLaughlin got his name on the scoresheet when he picked the ball up 25 yards out before hitting an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner. Two minutes later McLaughlin turned provider as he slid a ball into the feet of Rory Patterson who made no mistake from six yards. The rest of the tie was played out with Derry dominating but unable to add to their tally. Declan Devine will have been delighted with his charges over the two legs and particularly Patrick McEleney who looks like a real star in the making and Rory Patterson who looks very sharp.
