Dundalk snap up Coughlan

Dundalk FC have announced the signing of former St. Patricks Athletic midfielder Gareth Coughlan on a one-year deal. The winger joins the club from Leinster Senior League side Sacred Heart.

Coughlan suffered a broken leg in May of 2010 season while playing against Bohemians. He recovered and signed on for The Saints for the 2011 season as he played in a number of A Championship games. He then decided to join Sacred Heart before making the move to the Lilywhites.

The 21 year-old made his League of Ireland debut with Bray Wanderers in 2008 along with Chris Shields, Shane O'Neil and Derek Foran, who have all joined Dundalk for the 2012 season.The former Seagull is the 13th signing made by new manager Seán McCaffrey.

Coughlan joins Chris Shields, Shane O'Neil, Derek Foran, Peter Cherrie, Ger Hanley, Eoghan Osborne, Liam Burns, Nathan Murphy, John Mountney, Stephen McDonnell, Mark Griffin and Gary Shanahan at Oriel Park.

With the season just three weeks away, McCaffrey will be hoping to finalise his squad over the next few days. The fans will get their chance to see the new look side in action as Dundalk take on Banbridge Town in a friendly on Saturday afternoon in Crystal Park at 2 p.m.
