Cherrie re-signs for Dundalk
Dundalk have announced the re-signing of goalkeeper Peter Cherrie for the 2012 season.
The goalkeeper, who has been at the club for since the Summer of 2009, has agreed a new one year deal. The 28-year-old, who has held the number one jersey at Oriel Park since arriving under Sean Connor, has been subject of much speculation throughout the winter but he has finally put those rumours to bed by signing a new contract with the Lilywhites.
Cherrie has made 103 appearances in goal for the Louth club over the past two and a half seasons and the signing is sure to delight the majority of Dundalk fans who were worried he may move on.
His experience will be of major benefit to the club who look like they will be fielding a relatively young squad for the season ahead. Cherrie is the second goalkeeper signed by Dundalk manager Sean McCaffrey who has already secured the signature of highly rated goalkeeper Ger Hanley.
Cherrie becomes Dundalk's 12th signing of the close season joining Hanley, Liam Burns, Mark Griffin, Stephen McDonnell, Nathan Murphy, Eoghan Osborne, Derek Foran, Chris Shields, John Mountney, Shane O’Neill and Gary Shanahan at the border venue.
With the squad now taking shape, McCaffrey is expected to announce a number of new signings over the coming days.
