Kildare County vs Derry City
Kildare County welcome Derry City to Station Road for the first time ever for Saturday’s fourth round clash in the FAI Ford Cup (kick-off 14:00). Derry City lie 15 places above Kildare County in League positions but the Cup can prove a great leveller.
Having disposed of Fanad United by four goals to nil in the last round, Kildare boss John Ryan will be hoping for another Northern scalp come Saturday evening, however despite home advantage, he agrees that this will be a big ask for a young side.
Speaking to “kildarecountyfc.com”he said. “We will go out to play to our potential and give a good account of ourselves against a very talented and experienced side. We hope that Lady Luck smiles on us as in truth we will need all the luck we can get”
County will be without the injured Craig Mooney but Philly Hughes will make his return following suspension. Otherwise the manager has a full squad to choose from.
Derry City come into the game on the back of a 3-0 win over Cobh Ramblers. First team coach, Declan Devine is happy with the side’s performance but will not underestimate the First Division opposition.
"We've been playing good attacking football recently, scoring goals away from home, but we won't under estimate Kildare and we know that we are in for a tough game. We've played them twice in this competition in recent years, albeit at the Brandywell so we have an idea of what we are up against. It’s an unusual time for Kick off but we have taken that into consideration with our preparation.”
In Derry team news, Ciaran Martyn will miss out due to an ankle injury, whilst Mark McChrystal and Peter Hutton are both suffering from groin strains and will undergo fitness tests.
The game kicks off at 14:00.
