Sullivan heads down under

Shamrock Rovers have officially announced that Pat Sullivan will not be returning for the 2012 season. Sullivan has decided to take time out from football in order to travel in Australia.

Sullivan joined the Shamrock Rovers from Cork City in the summer of 2009 and has established himself as one of the most highly regarded full backs in the country.

He won two League titles with Rovers and also picked up a Setanta Cup winners medal in 2011. Perhaps most famously, Pat scored the equalising goal against Partizan Belgrade in the second leg of the Europa League play-offs in August 2011. The club’s 2-1 win saw Rovers become the first Irish club ever to qualify for the Group stages of a European competition.

Pat missed the majority of the 2010 season after suffering a cruciate injury in a game against Galway United at Terryland Park, but he played in 32 of Rovers’ 36 league games last season and played in all 12 of the club’s European games.
