As reported by the Drogheda Independent, Drogheda United have added seven more names to their playing squad for 2012 with the re-signing of four players from 2011 and the arrival three more, including former Drogs Paul Crowley and Declan ‘Fabio’ O’Brien.

Crowley spent two years at Hunky Dorys Park, 2009 and 2010, both difficult seasons as the club battled against their financial problems. At the end of 2010 he moved on to St Patrick’s Athletic where he made 24 league appearances last season, eight of those coming on from the bench.

O’Brien also returns to his former hunting ground, adding to the number of ex-Monaghan players to come into Mick Cooke’s squad for 2011. ‘Fabio’ is a figure who became legendary at Drogheda during the heyday of their success. He scored a phenomenal 90 goals between 2002 and 2008. He also picked up an FAI Cup winners medal in 2005 when Drogheda beat the then league champions Cork City at Lansdowne Road, two Setanta Cup winners medals, and was captain of the side when Drogheda won their only ever league title in 2007.

Striker Peter Hynes has also been brought in by Cooke, joining the club from Limerick FC where he scored three times in 24 league appearances last term.

Players to re-sign for Drogheda include Mark O’Brien, defenders Stephen Quigley and Alan McNally, along with goalkeeper Stephen Trimble, who will compete with Gabriel Sava for the ‘keepers shirt.
