Hibernian fans warm to Fenlon
Hibernian fans have taken to Pat Fenlon’s no nonsense approach as manager of the SPL side.
The 42 year old has impressed the Hibees fans with his big decisions within his first few weeks of managing the Edinburgh club.
President of the Edinburgh and Livingston H.S.C, Lee McLennan, was delighted with the appointment.
“Pat has the no nonsense approach and he seemed to be much respected and also got the most out of his players, something that is desperately needed here at Hibernian FC. So on that basis most people though over long term he was the right appointment, I was delighted with someone new.”
“Nutsy” Fenlon’s changes to his backroom team have been a source of comfort for fans of the Edinburgh giants. Lee McLennan pointed to the fact that all managers at the club had been ‘pushovers’ since John Collins in 2007, and the immediate changes and shake up Fenlon made reassured the club’s decision in their minds.
“Fenlon soon put that to bed ( being a pushover) when he made changes to his background team and the departures of Evans & Stevenson meant he was doing things his way and him and Billy Brown won't take any rubbish which was welcoming for us.”
McLennan added the influence of the fans, “Nutsy has already came out and said we are more important than ever and it's encouraging he wants to work a lot with the Hibernian fans, something that has went down a treat.”
The Dubliner earned his first point as manager of Hibernian against Inverness last night, when club favourite Garry O’Connor gave the home side the lead, only to be cancelled out by a great effort by young Irish midfielder Jonny Hayes. The big games keep coming thick and fast for the Hibees, with the fierce rivals Hearts coming to Easter Road on the 2nd of January.
In terms of the future for Hibees fans, McLennan believes Pat’s interview with Hibernian TV is just the tonic for a good future under his stewardship.
“Pat has come out and said this week on Hibernian TV that he already knows where he wants to strengthen the side and who are not in his plans. He hit the nail in the head for me. "I want good players with good ability although they also need to have the right attitude of the park too" That quote right there is essential to Hibernian at the moment as we have too many players that are just grabbing a wage.”
Fenlon also must invest in quality players, but the President of the Edinburgh branch S. C. has faith due to his history of bringing quality players into Bohemians.
“Investment is needed within the Hibernian squad yes although a have faith in our manager and I think he has the ability to grab a bargain. Just look at some of the players he brought to Bohemians.”
A promising start to his Hibernian career for Nutsy even though it has just begun, the former Bohemians, Shelbourne and Derry manager will be looking to turn the fans enthusiasm into a winning SPL side.
