Rice doesnt rule out a Rovers future
Shamrock Rovers midfielder Stephen Rice may yet have a future at the club. However, nothing will be decided until the end of the season.
After a falling out with manager Pat Scully, and subsequently asking for a transfer, it came as no surprise that Rice was unceremoniously dropped for the clubs next two games against UCD and Cobh Ramblers.
However Rice returned to the starting line up for the next four games, and was only absent last Friday against Finn Harps on account of a hamstring injury.
Speaking to extratime.ie, the former Bohemians midfielder said - "I'm obviously here until the end of the season, so I'm going to work as hard as I can, and at the end of the season we will sit down and review things"
It looked almost certain that the player would leave the club during the July transfer window, however a move never materialised - despite a number of offers.
"There were a few offers but nothing the club was happy enough with," Rice said. "These things happen - but maybe that's not the end of the world. We have a good young side here, its a great club to be at, the fans are superb and its great to play in the big games - so we will review things at the end of the season".
And Rovers have of course a big game this weekend when they take on FAI Cup holders Cork City at Tolka Park on Friday night. Should the sides remain level after ninety minutes, the replay will be at Turners Cross on Tuesday, August 19th.
