Limerick snap up Guthrie

Limerick FC have confirmed their first new arrival for the 2012 campaign to be central defender Shane Guthrie.

In somewhat of a reunion, Shane will join up with Pat Scully for the third time in his playing career. The Blues will be hoping the chemistry between the two will result in a strong base to continue their fantastic defensive form from last season.

Shane has played under Pat Scully while at Kilkenny City and more previously, Shamrock Rovers. Guthrie featured for Dundalk last season after going out on loan from St. Patricks and has dropped a division to compete in the blue of Limerick for the coming season. While promotion is the obvious aim, a league title is also highly anticipated on Shannonside this year.

Shane said: “I am delighted to sign for Limerick FC and I'm looking forward to next season. I can't wait to start training with the squad.” Pat Scully is obviously ecstatic to have gotten his man in the transfer window. He said:  “I know Shane well, having managed him at Kilkenny City and Shamrock Rovers. He is a strong defender and has the experience of winning the First Division twice. He will be a great asset to the team.”

Although Shane is only twenty-seven, he has a wealth of experience. His previous clubs include St Patrick's Athletic, Dundalk, Galway United, Cobh Ramblers, Shamrock Rovers, Kilkenny City and Cork City. Limerick FC are expected to announce more signings in the coming days.
