Sligo Rovers still need close to €100k
Sligo Rovers have confirmed that despite recent fundraising efforts, they still need to raise over €97,000 before the end of the month.
The North West club made a plea last month for the people of Sligo to get involved and invest money to the club in order to see it through the current financial crisis.
At a Shareholders meeting on July 14th, it was announced that unless the figure of €130,000 was raised by the end of August, the club would be forced to fold. It was also made clear that unless the funds were raised the club would be forced to withdraw from the league before the end of the current season.
Sligo had been hoping that an extended run in the cup competitions would boost finances - however defeat in the third round of the FAI Cup put an end to that revenue stream.
When the transfer window opened Sligo sold want away striker Faz Kuduzovic, as well as releasing Alan Moore, Keith Foy, and Jamie McKenzie. The club also came to an agreement with Bohemians regarding Anto Murphy.
The cash crisis hasn't stopped manager Paul Cook being permitted to add to his squad. Former player Paul McTiernan, Derry City youngster Dave McDaid, and former Sunderland player Richie Ryan all signed before the transfer window shut at the end of July.
