Cobh Ramblers could be set for a return to the League of Ireland First Division next season.

The club last week settled an outstanding tax bill with the revenue, Extratime.ie has learned. The tax bill has been a major stumbling block for the club as Dave Hill’s team seek a return to the League of Ireland second tier. The club have applied for a First Division licence for 2012.

The Cork club were granted an ‘A’ Championship licence last season and participated in the competiton, finishing sixth in Pool 2. They finished 11th in the 2008 Premier Division, seven points from safety, and were relegated along with UCD and Finn Harps.

The club were unable to take their place in the First Division and were granted a licence to take part in the ‘A’ Championship where they finished bottom of their group.

With the news of the financial problems looking seemingly to have been sorted, the club look to have taken a huge step in the process of being granted a licence for the First Division for the 2012 season.
