Youths appoint Keegan as manager
Wexford Youths have confirmed Shane Keegan as their new manager.
Keegan takes over from Noel O'Connor who spent two years in charge of the Youths. The former FC Carlow manager may have his work cut out this season with many of the Youths' star players rumoured to be departing.
The club finished last season in a disappointing second last place, winning just four of their 30 league games.
Speaking of Noel’s departure, Mick Wallace said, "I want to thank Noel for the relentless commitment he’s given the club for the last five years. I have not met a better football man or a better person involved in the game in Ireland – his own work commitments do not allow him to give the senior job the time it needs but I’m delighted to say that Noel is taking on the role of head coach of youth development at the club."
Another coach, Shane Murray, who has been working with the Emerging Talent programme is also joining the coaching staff at the club. The club is going through a period of change and Mick Wallace asserts that ‘as I’ve said before the Wexford Youths project will not be sustainable until it can function more independently of myself’.
