Shamrock Rovers confirm O'Neill departure
Shamrock Rovers have confirmed that manager Michael O’Neill will leave the club when his current contract finishes at the end of December.
O'Neill was believed to have told players in training that Thursday's Europa League match against Tottenham Hotspur would be his last for the club. Recent speculation has linked O’Neill with numerous jobs in the past few months, with the current Northern Ireland vacancy cited as a possible future destination, but he has insisted he has had no contact from the IFA.
The club statement thanked O'Neill for the success he has achieved during his time at the time but say that they will not be making further comment on the matter.
The statement read:
"Shamrock Rovers can confirm that manager Michael O’Neill will leave the club when his current contract finishes at the end of December.
The club would like to thank Michael for the great success he has brought to the club during his three year tenure at Shamrock Rovers, and we would like to wish him the best for his future career.
Everyone at the club is focused on Thursday night’s big Europa League game against Tottenham Hotspur at Tallaght Stadium, and the club will not be making any further comment on this matter."
