Waterford United have this afternoon confirmed the signing of Gary Dempsey from Bray Wanderers.

The gifted midfielder returns for his second spell at the RSC, having last worn the Blue shirt in the 2001-02 season, when he was voted Supporters Player of the Year.

A move to the Scottish Premier League saw him spend several seasons at Dunfermline and Aberdeen, and then a spell with Yeovil Town, before returning to St Patrick's Athletic for the 2008 campaign.

A short stint back in the UK with Darlington ended upon the Quakers' relegation, and he returned for a second stint with Bray Wanderers in the summer of 2010, becoming an instant hit with the fans at the Carlisle Grounds, and winning the Soccer Writers Player of the Month award last April.

The Wexford native, still only 30, will bring a wealth of experience to the heart of the Blues midfield, added to the full range of passing skills and exceptional vision. "We are thrilled to be able to bring in a player of Gary's quality", said United vice-chairman Sam White. "Everyone at the club is delighted with this signing, and we are all looking forward to seeing him back in the blue shirt. He will be an outstanding addition to [manager] Paul O'Brien's squad."
