The Football Association of Ireland has confirmed that it will have between 6,000 and 10,000 tickets for Irish fans for each group game in Euro 2012 - and fans can apply for the golden tickets from December 12th.

An online portal will be set-up from December 12th to February 29th and the FAI has outlined those who will be entitled to apply for tickets through the portal. They include: Supporters who have attended away games during the Euro 2012 Qualifying campaign; Vantage Club members; season ticket holders; and active block bookers.

With over 6,500 individuals in these groups, each person is entitled to apply for a maximum of TWO tickets for each of the group games, as well as matches in the knock-out stage.

This confirmation is likely be welcomed by the majority of Irish fans who will travel to the finals in Poland/Ukraine. With the FAI's allocation set to be between 6,000 and 10,000, depending on where they are drawn to play when the groups are confirmed next Friday, it seems a fair system.

However, there are those fans who operate under the names of others in the Block Booking and Season Ticket scheme, for example, who attend all games and don't appear to be allowed a means of applying.

An FAI press release has confirmed that those entitled to apply for tickets by falling into the categories above will be contacted by the FAI during the week commencing December 5th and ending December 9th to be given a username and password for the portal.

The FAI has also stressed that applications are not made on a first come, first served basis.

Those successful will be deducted and you will be notified by March 15th 2012 as to the success of your application and breakdown of tickets.

Applicants will be given the option to apply for tickets for Quarter-Final, Semi-Final & Final tickets should Ireland qualify for these rounds.

Ireland are fourth seeds for next Friday's EURO 2012 draw. The four groups will play matches across two host venues in one of the host countries, either Poland or Ukraine.

  • Group A will play matches in the Polish cities of Warsaw and Wroclaw
  • Group B will play matches in the Ukranian cities of Kharkiv and Lviv
  • Group C will play matches in the Polish cities of Poznan and Gdansk
  • Group D will play matches in Ukranian cities of Donetsk and Kiev

Fans who aren't afforded the chance to apply through this can still apply through Abbey Travel, Thompson Sport or via the UEFA re-sale scheme, which depends on ticket returns.
