O'Flynn keeps options open

Stephen O’Flynn is, like most members of the PFAI, on the transfer list at this moment in time. The Mallow native would like to stay with his own club, Limerick FC, but as always in this country, will be keeping his options open for a move elsewhere. Stephen O’Flynn has had various spells with Limerick, with his two most recent ones being separated by a spell at the Sixfields Stadium.

O’Flynn had previously been banging in the goals left, right and centre, but fell victim to a long term injury this year, with his last goals coming against Mervue United back in April. All in all, from eight starts, O’Flynn scored three goals throughout the course of the 2011 season, but it is his previous season’s goal tally that will be his selling point.

Speaking exclusively to Extratime.ie, O’Flynn said “I’m not looking to move at all, but Limerick still don’t know what division they’re in.” Of course, this centres around the idea that a Premier Division team along with Galway United would not meet the licensing criteria, and given Bohemians' current situation, the idea of Limerick in the Premier Division next year isn’t too far-fetched.

The ex-Wimbledon striker claims that the club have offered him a deal, but he’s not exactly sure if they have their financial plan in place yet. “I know Limerick want to keep me, but they don’t know what they can offer.”

Limerick are a club on the rise and O’Flynn recognises this, but also insists he will get his game regardless who comes in next season. “The more good players at the club, the better, but I know if I’m fit and well, I’ll play every week next year, no doubt.”

If a transfer was the way forward, however, O’Flynn does admit there are avenues available to him. “There are a lot of good clubs out there, but I haven’t heard anything solid from anyone yet so we’ll just see what happens in the next few weeks. It would be nice to have something sorted before Christmas.”

When asked for his selling point, Stephen was far from shy about promoting himself in the shop window. “I’m experienced, I score goals, and I have ability. I think most clubs know what I can and can’t do, so fingers crossed I hear something from either Limerick or elsewhere very soon.”

While O’Flynn’s ability cannot be doubted, it is widely known that Limerick do have an array of talent in front of goal with players such as Denis Behan, Rory Gaffney, Sean Brosnan, Garbhan Coughlan, Barry Sheedy and the probable re-signing of Garry Sheahan, to score the goals, aswell as young star Paudie Quinn to add his goals into the mix. Whether or not there is room at the Inn for O’Flynn, is up to the club.

Stay tuned to follow this transfer aswell as every other in the coming weeks.
