Gavin Kavanagh has signed a new contract with Cork City Football Club.   The 24 year-old central defender, who signed for the club in June 2010 after a spell with Crumlin United, made 25 league appearances for the club this season.

Speaking to CorkCityFC.net, Kavanagh said: “I’m delighted to have signed back with the club again. I have enjoyed my time at Cork City, and we had a great season in 2011. The club is now back in the Premier Division where everyone wants Cork City FC to be, and I am really looking forward to next season.”

Cork City manager Tommy Dunne said: “Gavin did well last year. He was a consistent performer for us; he played the majority of games despite having a back problem towards the end of the season. He’s been working with our physio Rob Savage, and Rob is confident that everything will be ok with that.”

“Since he signed, Gavin has been a very good player for us. He trains well, he’s good around the dressing room and he performs to a high standard week-in, week-out. The challenge now for him is to perform well consistently in the Premier Division, and I think he is well capable of stepping up. Like everyone at the club, if he follows his programme over the close season, he will give himself an excellent chance of doing so.”
