Cork City Football Club have announced that manager Tommy Dunne has signed a new three-year contract with the club.

Dunne, who took over as manager immediately prior to the 2010 season and oversaw the club’s First Division title win this season, has signed a three-year contract with the club and told CorkCityFC.net that he was delighted to have agreed the new deal:

“First and foremost I want to say that I was delighted to be a part of the success the club enjoyed this year. It was a fantastic to be part of something that was so special, and something that I think will live with everyone involved in the club for the rest of their days. It was a huge group effort from everyone to get this club back into the Premier Division; players, staff, the board and the supporters, and I am genuinely thrilled for everyone involved. ”

“To be asked to stay with the club as we go into the Premier Division is something I really wanted and am really looking forward to. Looking back over the last two years, I think everyone at the club was united and that unity was a major factor in us achieving promotion. Everyone pulled together and we achieved promotion, possibly a year ahead of schedule if you were to go by the book!”

“Over the last two years, I have received terrific support from everyone at the club. I don’t particularly like to single out individuals, but I have to acknowledge the contributions made by our club secretary Jerry Harris and Paul Hartnett from the Board of Management; they have been a huge help to me, and I would like to thank them especially.”

“It is important that we enjoy what we have achieved, we worked hard for it; but we have to know now that we will have to work even harder to give ourselves an opportunity to compete in the Premier Division. I know that everyone involved in the club is ambitious and wants our club to be competing at the top end of Irish football, so we need everyone to be doing their job to best of their ability to get us there.”

“I have spoken a number of times about the importance of unity, stability and continuity, and I believe they have been big factors in what we have achieved so far. For the club to progress, I believe they will continue to be important factors. I know I am hungry to achieve more and I believe everyone at the club shares that hunger. If we are hungry, we will go into the Premier Division next season and we will try to shake things up a bit!”

Commenting on the news, Cork City Chairman Jonathan O’Brien said: “We are delighted that Tommy has committed to the club for the next three years. When Tommy took over as manager, he had to assemble a squad at very short notice, and he then built on that to put together the side that won the First Division just a few weeks ago. That shows the value and importance of continuity, and we are delighted that Tommy will be continuing as manager.”

“Since FORAS took control of Cork City Football Club less than two years ago, we have worked to build the club up, and Tommy has been an integral part of that.  He understands that we are working to build Cork City FC up to be a club the city and county can be proud of, and also a club capable of competing for honours, and he buys into what we want to achieve.”
