Ex-LOI Cross Channel - Week 10

Premier League

 

Sunderland’s former Cork City midfielder David Meyler played the last nine minutes as the Black Cats secured a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa thanks to last minute goal. He tweeted afterwards @DavidMeyler “We showed great character to come back into the game today. We should have won, had some great chances. Great support as always. Also good luck to Cork City 2nite!”

 

Meyler was of course wishing luck to Cork City in their First Division title decider against Shelbourne on Saturday, which City won, and it was a former Shels man Wes Hoolahan who captained Norwich City on Saturday as they came from 3-1 down to draw with Blackburn Rovers.

 

Ex St pats and Cork City striker Kevin Doyle was brought down for Wolves’ penalty in their 3-1 defeat at Man City. Doyle’s international team mate Stephen Hunt scored the penalty. Another Irish international Stephen Ward formerly of Bohs also played for Wolves in this game.

 

Seamus Coleman ex Sligo Rovers played 90 minutes for Everton as they lost 1-0 at home to Man United.

 



Championship

 

Former St Pats and Drogheda midfielder Keith Fahey played 90 minutes for Birmingham last Wednesday night as they beat Leeds 1-0.

 

David Forde (ex Galway and Derry City) played in Millwall’s 4-1 home win over Ipswich on Saturday

 



Coventry’s Gary Deegan, formerly of Bohs, Longford and a few others in the LOI, came on as a sub in the 75th minute of their 1-1 draw against Doncaster.

 

Noel Hunt, the ex Shamrock Rovers and Waterford Unite striker was as 71st minute sub in Reading’s scoreless draw with Crystal Palace.

 

Keith Fahey again played 90 minutes for Birmingham as they drew 0-0 with Brighton.

 

League One

 

Weekend Games

 

Niall McGinn (ex Celtic) played 83 minutes and Jonathan Douglas (ex Monaghan Utd) played the full game for Brentford in their 2-1 win over Chesterfield, who had Gregg Fleming ( ex Galway United) in goal. McGinn tweeted after the game @nmcginn14 “Great 3 points for the bees 2day”.

 

Dave Mooney the ex Shamrock Rovers, Longford and Cork City forward scored Leyton Orient’s second goal in their 2-0 win against Rochdale, Leon McSweeney also ex Cork City played in this game for Orient too.

 

Former Cork City striker John O’Flynn scored one of eight goals in Exeter’s 4-4 draw with Sheffield United. Stephen Quinn (ex St Pats) played for United in this game.

 

Shaun Williams formerly of a number of LOI clubs including Sporting Fingal came on for MK Dons with 28 minutes remaining in their 2-0 win at Walsall.

 

Midweek games

Former Cork City player Brian Barry-Murphy played 68 minutes for Rochdale as they drew 1-1 with Chesterfield who had Gregg Fleming in goal.

 

Stephen Quinn played 90 minutes for Sheffield United and Shaun Williams played 70 minutes for MK Dons as the Blades ran out 2-1 winners.

 

John O’Flynn played the final 10 minutes as Exeter beat Walsall 2-1.

 

Dave Mooney scored both goals as Leyton Orient drew 2-2 with Yeovil.

 

League Two

 

Former Cork City defender Alan Bennett played 90 minutes for Cheltenham as the won 2-1 against Plymouth.

 

Kevin Long (ex Cork City) and Padraig Amond (ex Sligo and Shamrock Rovers) both played 90 minutes for Accrington Stanley in their 1-1 draw with Crawley Town.

 

Midweek Games

 

Alan Bennett again completed the full 90 minutes as Cheltenham lost at home to Crewe.

 

Kevin Long played 90 minutes and Padraig Amond played 59 in Accrington Stanley’s 1-0 defeat to Shrewsbury.

 

Scottish Premier League

 

Ex Shamrock Rovers and Derry City man Paddy McCourt came on as a 71st minute sub in Celtic’s 0-0 draw with Hibs.

 

Former Shels striker Richie Foran was in action for Inverness Caledonian Thistle as they lost 3-2 to Motherwell.

 

Scottish First Division

 

Tommy Stewart (ex Derry and Shamrock Rovers) came on as a sub in the 63rd minute for Partick Thistle in their 1-0 win over Dundee.

 

James Chambers (ex Drogheda, Shamrock Rovers, Shelbourne, Waterford) was also a sub, he came on for Hamilton after 73 minutes as they lost 3-2 to Ayr.
