John Martin on comeback trail

John Martin hasn't had the best of times since he joined Shamrock Rovers, but the right sided midfield player is looking forward to soon showing the Rovers faithful just what he can do.

Pat Scully signed Martin from Longford Town during the Summer transfer window of last season, making his debut against Waterford. However since then he has made just nine starts, and seemed to always be carrying an injury.

The problem was finally diagnosed correctly eight weeks ago and he underwent an operation at the end of June. At the time manager Scully didn't think he would play again this season, but the operation was a success and Martin is keen to be back in action as soon as possible.

Martin told extratime.ie - "Yeah the plan is to be back running next week, and then hopefully I will be ready for action five or six weeks after that"

"Its been frustrating, but I'm eager to return and show everyone at the club what I can do".

Martin has a family link to Rovers. His father Paul joined Rovers in 1968 and went on to spend four years at the club before moving to Bohemians, and then Athlone Town. While at St Mels Park he played against AC Milan in the UEFA Cup, when the midland club famously drew nil nil with the Italian giants.
