Brady pleased with current form

If there was a Player at the end of season Award being handed out at Longford Town Cathal Brady would definitely be the frontrunner. The nifty winger has been in fantastic form of late and just picked up the Supporters Club Player of the Month Award for September.

On Saturday night Brady put in another stirring display against Waterford United as the Town won 2-1; he was provider for the opening goal. He’s delighted with the way things have been going lately after a tough few months of being in and out of the side.

“Things didn’t go too great for me for a while during the season; I was sort of in and out. I was disappointed about how the season had gone for me. In the last few games I’ve came in and I don’t know, I can’t put my finger on what exactly has happened but I have been playing well. I’m happy with how I have been playing. Hopefully I can keep it going until the end of the season,” he told extratime.ie

Town’s win on Saturday night was a much needed one; they hadn’t tasted success since mid-July and had lost their previous three games. “It has been a while coming. We have been very unlucky not to win a few games, actually not to get points. Even last week against Monaghan we should’ve got a point, Limerick as well. That has been the difference and the unfortunate reason why we aren’t challenging at the end of the season because we couldn’t turn good performances into wins,” said Brady.

The win was also important in terms of where the Town finish this season with both themselves and Waterford United battling for 5th place. Town leapfrogged the Blues into the top half of the table on Saturday and Brady hopes they’ll remain there now until the end of the season.

“We’re in the driving seat and it’s in our hands to finish 5th. At the start of the season although we were looking for promotion to say we could finish ahead of a team like Waterford is a big difference from last season. We have made huge improvements. It’s in our hands. If we finish 5th it is progression; it’s a good season.”

Before Saturday night’s game Longford had been on a winless streak of six games and it was disheartening for some of the players. Although they had been playing well they couldn’t get the results their performances merited. Players became a bit disillusioned but they worked hard to try and rectify that.

Brady said, “No one likes being beaten so it’s hard to get out of it. Winning is a habit but so is losing. When we got a few losses a couple of heads might’ve went down but it’s a good camp; everyone wanted to pull together to get wins. We showed it tonight that when we do put in performances and work hard we get our rewards.”

Even though the Town have three games left to play, manager Tony Cousins is already looking ahead to next season and is in talks with players about re-signing for the club. Brady is one player that Cousins wants to remain on at the club and the player admitted he’s happy at Longford Town.

“I’ve had a little chat with Tony about next season already. I’m happy here. I know Tony well and he knows me well. Everything seems to suit me. Where we train is right near where I live; it’s very handy for me. It’s a good club and I like it down here.”
