Carling Cup
Last Tuesday and Wednesday saw the Fourth Round of the Carling Cup take place.
Dave Mooney (Ex Cork City, Longford and Shamrock Rovers) scored for Leyton Orient away at Blackburn Rovers. Mooney’s goal levelled the scores at 1-1 but unfortunately for the Irishman his side lost the tie 3-2. Mooney played 72 minutes before being replaced by Leon McSweeney, also formerly of Cork City.
Former Bohs Defender Matt Doherty played 90 minutes in Wolves 5-0 victory against Millwall.
Ex Cork City player Brian Barry-Murphy came off the bench for the last eight minutes of Rochdale’s 2-1 defeat at Aldershot.
Shane Ferguson (ex Derry City) played 120 minutes of Newcastle’s 4-3 (AET) win over Nottingham Forest.
Ex Sporting Fingal, Drogheda and Dundalk midfielder Shaun Williams played 90 minutes for MK Dons as they lost 2-1 at Burnley.
Former St Pat’s and Drogheda midfielder Keith Fahey played 62 minutes for Birmingham City as the holders were knocked out of the cup after a 2-0 defeat at Manchester City.
Seamus Coleman (ex Sligo Rovers) played 67 minutes for Everton in their 2-1 win against West Brom. Coleman was impressed by his captain Phil Neville’s winning strike as he tweeted after the game, @seamiecoleman23“Great result tonight! Great goal by Nev!”
Premiership
Fresh from 90 minutes in the Carling Cup four days earlier Wolves’ Matt Doherty made his Premiership debut against Liverpool coming on as a substitute at half time. Irish internationals Kevin Doyle (ex St Pat’s and Cork City) and Stephen Ward (ex Bohs) both played 90 minutes for Wolves in this game.
Seamus Coleman played 81 minutes for Everton in their 2-0 defeat by Manchester City.
Conor Sammon (ex UCD and Derry City) came on for the last 17 minutes of Wigan’s 2-1 defeat at home to Spurs.
Former Cork City striker Shane Long played 90 minutes as West Brom drew 0-0 with Fulham.
Ex Shels winger Wes Hoolahan played the full match as his Norwich side beat Sunderland 2-1 on Monday night.
Championship
Former Dundalk winger Daniel Kearns came off the bench in the 91st minute to make his Peterborough debut in their 1-0 defeat against Kearns’ other former club West Ham.
Ex Waterford United forward Daryl Murphy currently on loan from Celtic came on for Ipswich in the 85th minute in the Tractor Boys’ 0-0 draw at Middlesbrough.
David Forde (ex Derry and Galway) played 90 minutes for Millwall as they lost 3-0 to Derby.
Noel Hunt formerly of Waterford Utd and Shamrock Rovers, played 72 minutes during which he had a penalty saved, in Reading’s 1-1 draw at Coventry City. After the game Hunt tweeted @boyhunt“Nooo more penos for me Reading fans!!….Sorry guys I’m gutted!!”Roy O’Donovan (ex Cork City) played the last two minutes of this game after being introduced as a substitute.
Former UCD midfielder Gary Dicker played 90 minutes for Brighton in his sides 3-3 draw against Leeds on Friday night.
League One
Shaun Williams again played 90 minutes for MK Dons this time is their 0-0 draw with Bury.
Former Galway ‘keeper Gregg Fleming played for Chesterfield in their 3-1 defeat by Charlton.
Leon McSweeney played the full game and Dave Mooney lasted 70 minutes before being substituted in Leyton Orient’s 2-2 draw with Huddersfield.
Ex Monaghan midfielder Jonathan Douglas played 90 minutes and scored the opener in Brentford’s 2-0 win at Oldham, Niall McGinn formerly of Derry City played 74 minutes and set up The Bees’ second goal before tweeting @nmcginn14“Another great away win 4 the boys, good solid performance well done @dougieno4(Jonathan Douglas) on your goal an also @mylesweston(Brentford winger Myles Weston, scorer of their 2nd goal)”
McGinn tweeted later “great day all round, the hoops winning, derry city winning and the bees winning” Jonathan Douglas tweeted @dougieno4 “Great result by the lads”
Former Cork City Striker JohnO’Flynn came on in the 76th minute for Exeter against Sheffield Wednesday. Unfortunately for him, his side were already 3-0 down at this stage and that was the score the match ended.
Sheffield’s other team United lost 1-0 to Wycombe, ex St Pat’s midfielder Stephen Quinn played 90 minutes for the Blades in this game.
League Two
Ex Cork City defender Alan Bennett played 90 minutes for Cheltenham as they drew 0-0 with Hereford.
Kevin Long (ex Cork City) played the whole match and Padraig Amond (ex Shamrock and Sligo Rovers) played 84 minutes for Accrington Stanley as they drew 1-1 at Oxford
Scottish Premier League
Paddy McCourt the former Shamrock Rovers and Derry City winger came on as a sub in the 75th minute for Celtic against Inverness Caledonian Thistle for whom former Shels striker Richie Foran played 90 minutes. Celtic won the game 2-0
Scottish Division One
James Chambers (ex Drogheda, Shamrock Rovers, Shels and Waterford) came off the bench to play the last half hour of Hamilton Academicals’ 1-0 win against Dundee.
Former Derry and Shamrock Rovers forward Thomas Stewart was also a substitute at the weekend he came on for the final six minutes for Partick Thistle as they lost 2-1 to Livingston.
