Sligo Rovers -v- Shamrock Rovers
The Showgrounds in Sligo is the setting for an intriguing FAI Ford Cup quarter-final this evening as Sligo Rovers welcome Shamrock Rovers. Kick-off, 8pm.
This is the seventh time the clubs have met this season in all competitions. Shamrock Rovers have won four with Sligo winning two, including a 2-1 win just ten days ago. Both teams lie second in the Airtricity League Premier Division table one point behind Derry City, but Shamrock Rovers importantly have a game in hand to go back on top of the table.
Team News
Danny Ventre is Paul Cook's only absentee for the game. Dean Kelly (groin) and Ken Oman (knee) remain out of the away side through injury. Karl Moore is cup-tied while doubts remain over the fitness of Gary Twigg (thigh) and Ronan Finn (groin). Pat Flynn is suspended.
Manager’s View
"We’re really looking forward to the game”, Sligo Rovers boss Paul Cook said. “We’re missing Danny and that is a blow because I think he has been fantastic for us. He has given us a good shape but we will do our best to cope with that through the change we make. The two teams had a great tussle 10 days ago and I thought we played superbly. We deserved the win and to beat the better teams in this league you have to play very well."
Shamrock Rovers manager Michael O’Neill has his eyes set on a semi-final spot. “This is yet another big game for us; they are coming thick and fast now. But this is exactly the type of game we need after Thursday and the players are looking forward to it. It will be a tough game for both sides and the prize of a place in the semi-final is sure to make it a competitive one.”
