Scully signs two year extension with Lims

Limerick FC have announced that Pat Scully has signed a two year extension onto his contract which is set to expire at the end of this season.

This news comes just ahead of Limerick’s clash with Shelbourne on Friday evening, which was ironically Pat Scully’s first game in charge of the Shannonsiders. That tie ended in a one-nil defeat for his Limerick side thanks to a goal from Anthony Flood.

Limerick FC chairman Pat O’Sullivan spoke of his delight at securing Scully for another two years. “We are delighted that we have retained the services of Pat Scully for a further two seasons. Not only does Pat bring a wealth of experience and football knowledge to Limerick FC but he has also been instrumental in helping transform the club's reputation in the last number of years. The on- and off-field improvements in the last two years are part of a bigger vision to position Limerick FC as a sustainable Premier Division club with strong under age and development structures. Pat has played a huge part in the club's transformation and we look forward to him continuing to improve the club's fortunes in the coming years.”

Pat Scully joined Limerick back in 2009 following the untimely departure of manager Mike Kerley, who currently is in charge at Lisseywoolen. Scully was involved with Kilkenny City and Shamrock Rovers before’ he took over at Jackman Park. Bringing Kilkenny from the lower realms of the First Division table to being extremely close to a playoff place and getting Shamrock Rovers promoted from a highly competitive First Division in 2006 are the highlights of his career thus far.

Limerick have improved under his control, although, some may put this down to the increased budget he has. Either way, people argue the players the club currently has under contract were eased into signing by the professionalism the club offers, and Pat Scully has been no small part in that.

Pat Scully himself outlined his delight at his new deal. “I am obviously delighted to have extended my contract a further two years with Limerick FC and it is very pleasing that the club has shown great faith in the job I have done to date and my ability to bring the club to the next level. I am now over two years with the club and have developed a great working relationship with Chairman Pat O'Sullivan and the board that is based on great trust and mutual respect. We set out three goals for Limerick FC since Pat O'Sullivan has been involved in the club. One, we needed to set out proper professional structures which we now have in place and is reflected in the standard of player we are attracting to the club. Two, we identified the need to develop young players from within the club which is reflected by the number of young players who have already made the breakthrough to the first team squad. Thirdly, we want to gain promotion and more importantly stay competitive in the Premier Division in the long term. With six games to go we are still right in the hunt for a promotion playoff place and that is our absolute priority in the coming weeks, starting with Shelbourne on Friday night.”

His Limerick side are still in the mix to gain promotion, winning fourteen of their twenty-four games.
