Limerick v Longford Town

At this stage of the season, every game is regarded as a huge encounter for those involved in the promotion battle. This is most definitely the case for Limerick who face a very tough test from Longford Town when they visit Jackman Park on Friday evening. (Kickoff 7.45 pm)

Limerick are in a position where even a slight slip-up will see them fall away from the top three, and while tougher tests lie ahead in their final seven games, Longford Town have been the surprise package this year, putting in some fantastic performances.

Limerick come into this tie three points off their nearest competitors Cork City. Cork were the last opposition for the Blues, and the sides played out a fantastic 3-3 draw in front of the 2000 in attendance. Longford on the other hand, had a rather disappointing 2-2 draw with Mervue United despite going 2-0 up.

Limerick have played Longford twice already this season, winning both encounters. The first tie was in March, with Limerick coming out 1-0 winners thanks to a goal from Jeffrey Judge. The second affair in Flancare Park was just as close, with Limerick edging out the Town by two goals to one.

While Longford are too far away from the mix-up to make a go for the playoffs themselves, Limerick must focus on the task at hand, and come away with three points to keep promotion hopes alive for the Shannonsiders.
