Sheriff YC removed from FAI Cup

The FAI Domestic Committee have announced that Sheriff Youth Club have been removed from the 2011 FAI Ford Senior Cup after playing an ineligible player against Shelbourne in the 4th Round. In a somewhat unusual move, the FAI have given Limerick FC a bye to the semi-final, rather than granting Shels a place in the Quarter Finals.

The statement in full reads:

The FAI Domestic Committee has removed Sheriff Youth Club from the quarter-finals of the 2011 FAI Ford Senior Cup after ruling they played in an ineligible player in their Fourth Round tie against Shelbourne on August 26. Limerick FC will now progress to the semi-finals. All parties affected by this decision have the right of appeal and any appeal must be lodged by 1pm tomorrow as per FAI Rule 156C.

Shelbourne Football Club have reacted to the decision to allow Limerick progress, rather than grant the Tolka Park side a place in the Quarters. The club have released the following statement:

"Shelbourne FC are in receipt of the decision of the FAI Domestic Committee in relation to the ineligibility of a player in the recent FAI Ford Cup game between ourselves and Sheriff YC.

We would like to commiserate with our near neighbours and friends, Sheriff YC in the decision to remove them from the competition .

However , Shelbourne FC is aghast at the decision of the Committee not to reinstate our Club to this season’s FAI Ford Cup as a consequence of this and will be making no further comment until the Club’s Board of Management has examined, in conjunction with its Legal Advisors, all available options."
