Blues move to secure three players
Waterford United have confirmed the addition of two players to the first team and the expected addition of one more next week.
Sean Maguire and Jack Doherty have been signed on standard player contracts for the remainder of this season and all of 2012. The Blues have been pursuing a policy of building a squad of exciting young local talent, and moved quickly to secure the services of the duo who have been the subject of much interest from other clubs in recent weeks.
Striker Sean, who hails from Castlecomer, first joined the U19 set-up from Evergreen in Kilkenny, where he was a scoring sensation this past season, notching 50+ goals for the club. He quickly made the step up to United’s senior squad, and has already had a taste of league action.
Midfielder Jack, a Carrick native, starred with the Villa last season, was a member of the Waterford Schoolboy side which reached the Inter League Cup final in June, and has impressed hugely during the U19s’ pre-season programme.
Elsewhere, the Blues have confirmed the imminent return of fans’ favourite John Hayes to the RSC. The strong and versatile defender returns after a season away from football to massively boost Paul O’Brien’s options at the back and at defensive midfield.
With the move agreed by all parties, it is expected that John will complete the formalities early next week.
