Europa Group draw - the possibilities

Following a 3-2 aggregate win over Partizan Belgrade in the playoff round of the Europa League qualifiers, Shamrock Rovers will be in the draw for the Europa League group stages. The draw takes place in Monaco on Friday August 26th.

Seeding does apply to these group matches, and due to the poor co-efficient ranking the Airtricity League has in comparison to the other sides in the hat, Rovers are to be bottom seeds, making a draw against the bigger sides far more likely.

The draw consists of forty eight teams. Thirty eight of the teams come through the Europa League playoff like Shamrock Rovers, and the ten losers of the UEFA Champions League playoff round will complete the entrants list.

Forty eight teams will split into four seeding pots; selecting one from each, for each individual group. There will be twelve groups. No team can meet another from the same association. Once the draw has been completed a computer draw will determine the final position of the sides within their group and therefore the order of the home and away matches.

To put things in perspective, Shamrock Rovers have a co-efficient of 2.741 while Tottenham have a co-efficient of 78.157.
