Kildare County ended a run of five straight league defeats on Monday night when they defeated fellow strugglers Wexford Youths in Ferrycarrig Park.

Ciaran Kilduff got the only goal of the game in the 15th minute and it was enough to give Kildare manager John Ryan only his third league win of the season.

The win means that Kildare now trail Wexford by only two points, with Wexford to face table toppers Dundalk this coming Thursday night. Kildare have the easier task of playing seventh place Monaghan United.

Wexford Youths: Pa Doyle, Anto Russell, Joey Wadding (Shane Dempsey 78), Paul Rossiter, Johnny Flynn-O'Connor; Keith Kearney (Craig McGuire 70), Paul Malone, Conor Sinnott, Gavin Doyle; Kyle Dempsey (Richie Fitzgerald 20), Danny Furlong.

Kildare County: Austin O'Neill; David O'Connell, Paul Donnelly, Colin Fortune, Glen Walsh; Eoin Kavanagh, Barry Slattery, Craig Mooney, Greg Kilkenny (Cathal Brady 60); Philly Hughes (Ger Robinson 60), Ciaran Kilduff.
