EPL Fantasy Football Gameweek 1 Update

For a 12 hour period last week, all talk of the economic crisis in Europe and the riots in England halted for a select portion of the public as the much anticipated 2011 Premier League Fantasy Football season shuddered to an unexpected halt.

As thousands of people flooded to make those last day changes or in some cases input a team, the Fantasy Football servers ground to horrifying stop. Twitter exploded. Facebook exploded. Anger spilled out onto the footballing forums of the world. "But but but I ONLY have a auto-generated team in", said Ted in Birmingham. The stomach churning realities of having a selection of nil-point warriors as your starting 11 was all too much for some.

Since the fall out, Fantasy Football overlords have given us an extra week of unlimited transfers, the option to reset mini leagues and they launched all manner of prizes at us in the hope that the Week 1 horrors were forgotten and more importantly forgiven.

Amidst all this clamour, Extratime's Mini League (code for joining - 247840-74216) had swelled to just under 400 members and the battle commenced. With the Everton versus Tottenham game the only Premier League victim to the unrest in the UK, nine other games proved the points that saw Steve H.'s Harper FC rise above the rest and into first place in the ET League.

Fantasy Football Week 1

His lofty position is down to the front line pairing of Wolves Steven Fletcher (captain) and Man City's Sergio Aguero, who amassed a total of 33 points in his overall tally of 85. Bolton's Gary Cahill earning 13 was the other highlight of his week. If this was a normal gameweek, Steve would be in a pickle, as three injuries and two doubtfuls could have upset his lead, but with the transfer amnesty, he can change at will.

We have three folks in joint second. Conor Walsh's Walshy's XI, Paul Moore's The P Sharps and Jason Kierans' RebelDevil all sit on 79.

Sitting at the bottom of the pile is the aptly named Hope is a Liar from Ciaran McLarnon, very much looking like a victim of the outage.

And so week 2 begins tomorrow. Have you made your changes early or are you going to run the gauntlet of waiting till the last minute again? Who is the early season must have?
