Heary disappointed with derby defeat

Following their 1-0 defeat against Shamrock Rovers at Dalymount Park on Friday night, Bohemians captain Owen Heary admitted his disappointment at his side's performance.

“I don't think that we played well. I think that we were second best to everything in the first half and that we could have been two or three down and that Barry (Murphy) pulled off a few good saves. I thought that was the worst that we played in a long time. In the second half we managed a chance or two but I still think that we weren't good enough to get something out of the game tonight.”

Heary felt that Bohemian's encouraging performances in the Europa League added to the disappointment following his side's below par performance against the champions.

“It's more disappointing because of the way that we played. We didn't play well enough. Against the European team, we were about them. We were up for it and we closed them down high up the park. Tonight in the first half, we didn't do that. In the second half we got about them more but then they scored from a set piece which is more disappointing because we don't normally concede from set pieces.”

Despite the fact that the defeat leaves Bohs 10 points off the top of the table, Heary believes that The Gypsies can still have a say in the title race. “There are plenty of games left. There are a lot of tough games coming up for us and for the other teams in the league. We need to get back to winning ways and to get our performances back to what they were.”

The Bohs captain believes that next Saturday's game away to league leaders Sligo Rovers is going to be a tough challenge. “We have a couple of tough games with Sligo and Derry coming up which we have to get something from. We played well against Sligo in the last couple of games when we picked up four points out of six. Hopefully we can keep that momentum going and get something up there next week” added Heary.
