Turners Cross is the venue for the FAI Women’s Cup Final this Sunday between St. Catherine’s of Dublin and Wilton United of Cork. Kickoff in this tie is scheduled for a 3pm start.

St. Catherine’s will be favourites to lift the trophy on Sunday, and have competed at this stage of the competition before; losing the 2009 final to St. Francis Richmond Park. They come into this side bang in form as their semi-final victory was rather substantial. Kilmacrennan Celtic were the opposition in the last four, and they were easily brushed aside by a scoreline of seven goals to nil.

While a seven goal haul in a semi-final is impressive, Wilton themselves have been in goal-scoring mood, scoring twelve times in their last three cup games, including a very impressive 6-1 win over Lagan Harps. Their semi-final performance wasn’t as convincing as their opponents, needing penalties to overcome Wexford Women’s League following a 2-2 draw.

Wilton United captain, Sineád Forde is no stranger to the pressure of cup final games, having won the WFAI senior cup with UCD in 2004 at Lansdowne Road. Forde has been used both in central defence and midfield for Wilton this year and her international experience at U16 and U18 level will be a huge advantage for the Cork outfit.

The Wilton captain seems excited ahead of the occasion. She said: ““This is a huge occasion for everybody involved in Wilton and for women’s football in Cork. Having the final at Turners Cross is definitely an advantage for us and we will hopefully get a good home crowd there on the day to support us. Having lost the 2009 final, St. Catherine’s will be hungry for this title and I think that they have to go into the game as favourites, which definitely takes the pressure off us. We were lucky to advance past the semi-final stage after our 2-2 draw with Wexford as they hit the cross-bar in the final kick in the game before the penalty kicks went to sudden death. I think we will need a little bit more luck next Sunday if we are continue our good run in the cup this year.”

Tickets for the final can be purchased on the day and are priced as follows:
