Kearns impresses despite Celtic defeat

An excited Daniel Kearns spoke to ExtraTime.ie after the game between the Airtricity XI and Celtic, a game in which he was able to show what he’s capable of. The youngster came very close to opening the scoring in the early stages of the game. He flew down the left wing and in true Cristiano Ronaldo style added step-overs before cutting inside and having a pop at goal. His effort was pushed just wide unfortunately.

Kearns was in a chirpy mood post the defeat: “I’m obviously happy enough with the way I performed, the result was disappointing but overall I’m happy with the way things went.”

The sheer quality of Kearns has not gone unnoticed and has attracted plenty of attention overseas. Despite the fact the Airtricity XI fell to a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Celtic, the young Dundalk midfielder stood out in the first-half and that had nothing to do with his bright yellow boots.

Kearns, who was a member of West Ham United’s youth academy, was adamant that he had a great time playing against the Scottish Premier League side: “I really enjoyed it you know it’s a big occasion. It’s a lovely stadium. I’m just delighted to get out there. It was lovely to play on.”

For any League of Ireland player it is a huge opportunity to get to play against players of such high calibre and Daniel said that he had been excited all week to take part in a game played in the Aviva Stadium: “I was really looking forward to playing on it all week, I was glad to get out there and yeah it was massive for me.”
