Mancini introduces Aguero as Man City player
Sergio Aguero was formally introduced to the media as a Manchester City player this evening at the club's pre-Dublin Super Cup press conference in the Aviva Stadium. Aguero was led into the room by his manager Roberto Mancini and spoke quietly, almost shyly, but with a beaming smile about his joy at joining his new club.
"I'm very happy to be here and am enjoying the time with my colleagues today. I'm just looking forward to when it's time to play and moving forward, that's what we all want to do." But Aguero will not feature over this weekend, with boss Mancini saying that his new record-signing is 'too tired', having recently returned from an unsuccessful Copa America campaign with Argentina.
Despite this weariness, Aguero appeared extremely eager to begin working with his new teammates, and had some praise for his new club.
"I'm very interested in playing here, it's a growing club and I hope it will earn me glory as well. They're all great players, a great team and I think I'll be playing with one of the best English teams at the moment, so I'm really happy. There are many things that can be achieved and I always play to win many titles and hopefully we will get some titles."
With one Argentinian striker coming in, Roberto Mancini was predictably questioned as to whether this could see another, in the shape of Carlos Tevez, depart Eastlands.
"I think that Carlos at the moment is a City player. Carlos is an important player but I don't know what can happen the next day."
Mancini was also asked to comment on the prospects of another of his players, Ireland's Greg Cunningham. The promising young defender has caught the eye of Giovanni Trapattoni in the past and clearly has the admiration of his club boss too.
"I like Greg, he is a young player. Last year he was very unlucky because he went to Leicester to get experience and [got] a bad injury. But I think he can have an important future because he's a good guy, a good player, he's young but he needs experience and he needs to play. I like him."
The City manager made it clear that he intended to use the entirety of his travelling squad (minus Aguero) in this tournament, but wouldn't reveal which would be the closest to his ideal first-team line-up.
"I think it will be two good tests but we play with two different teams - one tomorrow and one Sunday - because I need that all the players can play minutes. Tonight I decide which team will play tomorrow and which will play Sunday."
