FC Copenhagen -v- Shamrock Rovers

Shamrock Rovers embark on their first leg of the 3rd Qualifying Round in the Champions League against Copenhagen knowing that progression to the next stage of the competition will assure they will become the first Irish team in Group stage European football.

Victory over Copenhagen would mean entry into the 4th Qualifying Round and defeat at that stage would see automatic inclusion in the Europa League Groups. However firstly the Hoops have the somewhat difficult task of overcoming the Danish Champions, a team that progressed to the Second Round of the Champions League last year and have a strong pedigree in Europe in recent years.

Shamrock Rovers will go into the game without the injured Karl Sheppard (ankle) whilst Chris Turner is suspended for the game. Stephen O'Donnell will face a late fitness test and is the only doubt. Having squared up to Juventus last season, the Tallaght based side and manager Michael O'Neill know what is needed.

"Preparation has been going well and we're all looking forward to the game. We know it will be a big challenge for us facing Copenhagen, but we are ready to face it", said O'Neill.
