The First Division Team of the Week has been announced on Extratime.ie, choosing the finest players from all competitive fixtures in the Airtricity League First Division over the past week. The team is as follows:

Ronan Forde (Salthill Devon)

Eugene Greaney (Salthill Devon)
Kevin Murray (Waterford United)
Shane Nolan (Wexford Youths)
Gary Cronin (Longford Town)

Conan Byrne (Shelbourne)
Darragh Walshe (Wexford Youths)
Wayne Colbert (Athlone Town)
David Cassidy (Shelbourne)
John Reilly (Monaghan United)

Phillip Hughes (Shelbourne)

Table toppers Shelbourne extended their lead at the top of the First Division to ten points after an impressive display in Donegal. Conan Byrne, David Cassidy and Philly Hughes grabbed the goals and were the standout performers also in what was a crucial win for the Reds.

Salthill Devon and Longford Town were locked in a tight game for 88 minutes until a late winner for Longford stunned Devon. Ronan Forde is the stopper this week, producing some excellent saves to deny Longford throughout. He was assisted by a good defensive display from Eugene Greaney, while Gary Cronin kept the Galway side at bay to secure a clean sheet for the Town.

Wexford and Waterford was a similar story, with defences coming out on top thanks to Kevin Murray and Shane Nolan, but the Blues defence was to be penetrated just the once, with Darragh Walshe creating most of the magic for Youths going forward.

Monaghan United suffered a shock defeat at home to Mervue courtesy of two own goals - a rather unusual occurrence. Despite the result, the outstanding individual performance on the night came from John Reilly on the wing for Mons. His clever play out wide tore the Mervue defence wide open before teeing up his team mate Dave Byrne to score their only goal.

The clash in Athlone between the Midlanders and Limerick was all set to be the curtain raiser for Joe Gamble and Denis Behan, however, ex-Limerick player Wayne Colbert dominated in the middle of the park, producing a fantastic display to deny Limerick for so long. Only a goalkeeping mistake cost Athlone a much deserved point.
