Cook looking forward to Europa tie
Sligo Rovers will play FC Vorskla Poltava or Glentoran in the third round of Europa League qualifying later this month.
Vorskla are 2-0 up in the first leg of their tie with Glens. Rovers will face an away leg on 28 July and then will have a home game in The Showgrounds on 4 August.
Sligo Rovers manager Paul Cook said: “It looks like we’ll be going to Ukraine and that is a very difficult draw. They seem to be a very strong team with excellent players and play in an excellent league. All we can do is our best and I know our players will look forward to it.
“I’m happy to be away from home first. This is a great experience for the players and we will certainly give it our all. I’m going to try to get to their game next week and do our homework and give ourselves the best opportunity.”
Sligo Rovers chairman Michael Toolan said: “It is not the ideal draw in terms of cost but to be in the competition at this stage is fantastic for Sligo Rovers and I know Paul and the players will be excited by the opportunity.
“It is a wonderful time for the club and they have made great strides on-the-pitch and this is another fantastic adventure for us. "The home game is already sold out so we're looking forward to that already."
