Harding - UCD undone by set pieces again
UCD defender Sean Harding told Extratime.ie that set pieces and missed chances once again proved to be his side's undoing following their 2-1 defeat against Bray Wanderers on Friday night “It seems to be the story of our season so far, conceding from set-pieces. A few of the lads were saying that the ball was played before the referee blew the whistle (for the first goal), but I'm not too sure myself. That's no excuse though. Set pieces have killed us again tonight.”
Harding hopes that it is not a step back for the club after they had collected four points from their previous two league games “We hope it's not a step back for us. We're very disappointed with the defeat but I think that we have just got to pick ourselves up again and go again next week as we have done all season.”
Samir Belhout missed an excellent chance to level it for the home team just after captain Michael Leahy's goal. Harding felt that this was a key moment in the game. “We had just scored our goal and if he had put that one in I think that we would have gone on to win the game. I think for most of the second half we were on top. They set back for most of the game. It's just disappointing that we can't convert our chances. That's another story of our season.”
The UCD right back was unhappy that his team did not push on and create more opportunities after getting back into contention “That's the only clear cut chance that we had that I think we could have scored from after our goal. We maybe played too much ball and should have been more direct at times. We need to learn to mix it up a little bit more” added Harding.
