In 2008, Cobh Ramblers were a League of Ireland Premier Division club. Fast forward three years and the club is now battling in the A Championship but are working as hard as ever to get back into the big time.

This Saturday's match against Tralee Dynamos (Kick-off 6.30pm) is a six-pointer in the content of the A Championship campaign. With Tralee just two points behind, the Cork side need a win to keep heading toward the top of the table and make the playoff spot.

The future may look bleak from the outside, but there is optimism within the club with a committed set of players with league experience and youngsters coming through into the first team.

Promising young players like Brendan Frahill, Jason Abbott and Gary Collins added to with the experience of John Meade , Conor Meade and Stephen Deasy are what the side has to offer this weekend, but are without Club Captain Michael Hastings and Kevin McCarthy due to Work commitments with Alan O Flynn and Peter Nolan both unavailable for the rest of the season.

While training for most clubs can be difficult with other jobs, Ramblers players show their commitment to the club as they train three times a week, playing games both home and away without payment after the club has reverted to a completely amateur status. This has allowed the club to form a group of players who are committed to the club allowing the team to gain experience, leaving the future on the field looking bright for the Ramblers.

Cobh played out a thrilling three all draw with Tralee in St Coleman’s Park earlier this season with Conor Meade scoring all three on the night and go into the game having beaten Galway 3-0 last Saturday in Cobh with Conor Meade again scoring all three. Following an indifferent start, their recent results are encouraging and they seem to have hit form at just the right time and will hope to continue their good form this weekend.
