Sligo Rovers welcome relegation battlers Drogheda United to The Showgrounds this Saturday (Kick-Off 7.45pm).
Paul Cook’s side have the opportunity to go top of the table this weekend and are currently on a run of six clean sheets in a row. In their last league outing, Sligo picked up all three points against Bray Wanderers which included a brace from Matthew Blinkhorn.
The Bit O’Red have a clean bill of health with no injury concerns or suspensions. Iarfhlaith Davoren returns after he picked up an injury against Bohemians in June but Aaron Greene has been playing exceptional in his place so Cook will face a selection dilemma.
Speaking about the weekend’s game, Paul Cook acknowledged that Drogheda will be no easy feat: “It could be a difficult game because they will get men behind the ball and put pressure on us. We know that we have to do the right things, keep the ball and stay patient and try to work out the result.”
Drogheda will be facing Sligo after suffering back to back defeats. Their most recent defeat was at the hands of Derry City. Despite results going against them, goalkeeper Steven Trimble has been on form lately.
Mick Cooke will be without both Tiernan Mulvenna and Jack Flynn as both have suffered injuries. Cooke is also awaiting news on three possible transfers as he would like to start these players against Sligo.
Mick Cooke is keeping positive ahead of the clash and is hopeful that his men will get something out of the game: “I’ve always said that Sligo would be the main challenge to Shamrock Rovers and this is something I still believe. They are by far the best footballing side in the league, so we know what we are up against when we go there.
“Of course we will still be going up there with the mindset to get something from the game. We weren't too disgraceful the last time we were there and we looked to be in the game until they got their second goal. So if we can just keep positive who knows what might happen.”
In their last meeting, Rovers were victorious, recording a 3-0 win over the Louth side. The last time Drogs visited Yeat’s county, they were defeated 2-0 and are yet to score against Sligo this season.
